Each of the two wheels (1,2) of the vehicle is protected by a folded steel sheet or plastics mudguard (3,4). Tubes (6,7,8) are welded onto the chassis beam (5). The mudguards are fixed onto the chassis by these fixing tubes. The number of fixing tubes is reduced to N + 1 when there are N wheels in place of the 2N tubes required currently. The two consecutive mudguards are supported by a single tube (7) to which they are joined by a connecting piece. This connecting piece has two connecting legs which a joined to the fixing tube on the vehicle chassis beam. The connecting piece has a central part (9), fixed onto the tube, and lateral legs (15). The lateral legs are extended by end segments (13) tangential to the mudguards and perpendicular to the side legs.
