A new process has been developed for manufacturing scrub solution for scrubbing acid gases, as for example sulphur dioxide from stack gases. The process is based on ion exchange, in which potassium chloride is changed to potassium bicarbonate, treating potassium chloride with an ion exchanger in bicarbonate form. The chloride ions stay in the ion exchanger, from which they can be regenerated by magnesia or calcium milk. The reaction yield can be considerably improved by dissolving potassium chloride in an organic solvent, as for example ethyl alcohol. |
