<p>In an apparatus and method for reforming the bottom of a container (28), a number of tooling rams (20) each have a reforming roller (230) supported by a pivot roller shaft (228) that is in turn pinned to one end of a pivot arm (222). The opposite end of the pivot arm is pinned to an eccentric lug (220d) on a pivot base that is connected to a tooling drive shaft (56). The reforming roller is restrained axially by roller guide disks (240, 242) mounted to the tooling rams. Axial and rotational movement of the pivot arm is converted to radial and rotational movement of the reforming roller as a result of the pinned connections between the pivot arm and the pivot base, and the pivot arm and the pivot roller shaft. A container holder (304) may support the container on portions of the outer periphery that are axially offset from a plane defined by the orbital path of the reforming roller.</p> |
