SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING DATA IN PACKETS USING DIFFERENT PACKET TYPE IDENTIFIERS

In a data transmission system, comprising a transmitting station and at least one receiving station, data is arranged in packets of a first type, comprising a first data type identifier and data. The system further provides packets of a second type, comprising the first data type identifier, a second data type identifier, and data. Said second identifier is designed for indicating the type of data and said first identifier is designed for linking said second identifier to the data and packets of the second type to packets of the first type. As the length of said first identifier is shorter than the length of said second identifier, transmission efficiency of packets of a first type is improved compared with packets comprising said second identifier and data. The invention is especially useful in RDS, where packets of the first type are a version A group and packets of the second type are a version B group.
