The foot operated accelerator pedal of a road vehicle is mounted at the end of a lever (2) that is pivot mounted on a spindle (1) within a housing (3) and has a bearing insert (9). When foot pressure is applied to the pedal it moves to oppose the force provided by a coil spring (20). Axially in line with the pivot support is potentiometer that provides feedback of pedal position to the engine controller. This has a track on the moving part with a sliding contact pick up on the fixed housing. Internally there is a small friction brake pad insert (22) that operates against the pedal lever boss to maintain the end position.
