The base frame (10) supports the seat (16) by a seat support (20) axially adjustable by a first spindle drive (26). The base frame supports the backrest (18) by means of an upward and backward sloping support (22) axially adjustable by a second spindle drive (28). The two spindle drives are coupled. The forward sloping seat support is positioned on the longitudinal centre plane of the chair, along which the backward sloping backrest support is positioned. The backrest support together with its base point (36) forms a V resting on the base frame just above the ground. The V's base point contains the drive coupling of the two spindle drives.
