An automatic control system for road traffic signals capable of constructing an intelligent transportation system (ITS) for an advanced traffic management system (ATMS) through the intellectualization of roads and vehicles in a road traffic system consisting of road-vehicle-signals in association with artificial satellite signals as well as electronic, information and communication techniques, thereby not only achieving an advanced traffic management, but also actively processing road traffic information. The system of the invention achieves an advanced signalling intellectualization and automatization for automatically carrying out complex and various traffic signalling operations such as indication, prohibition, attention, restriction, instructions and guidance by appropriately changing the function of signal lamps among those of the color pattern, symbol pattern and passage prevention notifying signal pattern. The signalling system (1) includes multi-function signal display lamps (5) each operating to generate multi-color, multi-figure and multi-function signals for providing a variety of signal instructions. Each signal display lamp (5) displays a variety of signal patterns respectively corresponding to different lanes or different advance directions. |
