<p>A method of treating reinforced concrete (10) comprises the steps of applying an elongate electrode (20-24) to a surface (12) of the concrete (10), providing electrolyte (17) at the electrode (20-24), connecting the electrode (20-24) in an electrical circuit such that the electrode (20-24) applied to the surface of the concrete is an anode and a part of the reinforcement (11) is a cathode, passing electric current through the concrete (10), determining the location of an elongate reinforcement part (20a-24a) within the concrete (10), and positioning the elongate electrode (20-24) on the concrete surface (12) so as to be generally in alignment with the reinforcing part (20a-24a) within the concrete (10) so as to maximise current density along a path between the electrodes both to enhance the generation of hydroxyl ions in the region of the reinforcement part (11), and to maximise the removal of harmful negatively charged ion species from around the reinforcement part (11).</p> |
