The control device allows the transmission ratio to be varied continuously in dependence on an operating parameter of a transmission ratio variation mechanism (113), corresponding to a transmission ratio command value, with a control unit (106) comparing the actual transmission ratio with the target transmission ratio calculated from the detected vehicle travel parameters. The dynamic characteristic for each transmission ratio is estimated and compared with the required dynamic characteristic, to provide a control constant for the transmission ratio, used to provide a required transmission ratio with corresponding adjustment of the actual transmission ratio.
