The ignition coil assembly for use on IC engines has a main body that is produced with a rectangular cross section and forms an internal space inside of which a former is located that supports the primary coil windings (2). The secondary coil windings (3) are on a second former that is embedded within an insulating resin. Two C shaped ferrite cores (1a,1b) of laminated plates are inserted into the coil former and a further core (1c) is positioned between them. A conductive plate (11) is inserted between the core and the primary coil former and provides a ground connection (5) to the core.
