The hydraulic cylinder comprises a skid preserver (15) which is movable relative to the piston rod (5) and which is held in a protective covering (4). The skid preserver takes the alignment position of the moving-out position depending on the position of the piston rod. The protective covering is deformable in the axle direction, and at least in one moving direction is effective as a retaining device against the movement of the piston rod.
