An appliance inlet for vehicles, especially cars, comprises a contact part or plug (P) which can be connected with an appliance cable (L) in the vehicle and a mounting device for mounting the plug (P) on to a mounting surface (M) in the vehicle. When mounting, the contact part or the plug (P) is attached through a mounting hole in the mounting surface (M) and is locked against this by means of the mounting part (7) which is designed as an internally threaded housing which engages with the external threading on a plug housing (11) on the plug (P), with the result that the appliance inlet is rigidly secured to the mounting surface and with its opening substantially in alignment with the outside thereof, the opening being covered in a known manner with a watertight, self-closing cap (1). The interior of the contact section (4) which contains contact pins (8) in the plug (P), is connected via drainage slots (12) incised in a wall (4d) of the contact section (4) through the mounting surface (M) with drainage slots (13) in the mounting housing (7), with the result that the interior of the contact section (4F) is drained according to regulations into the outside of the appliance inlet. The appliance inlet according to the invention is arranged to receive a socket (S) from an external power source in order to provide charging current for the vehicle or power for an engine or compartment heater when the vehicle is at rest.
