An optical article (21) comprising a flexible plastic substrate (22) having an index of refraction ranging from 1.55 to 1.71 and having a first surface (23) and a second surface (24) and an anti-reflection coating (26) carried by the first surface (23). The anti-reflection coating (26) consists of a high index material and a low index material in which the high index material has an index of refraction of 2.0 or greater to provide the index of refraction difference between the substrate and the high index material of 0.29 to 0.75. The low index material is formed of a material having an index of refraction of 1.38 or less to provide an index of refraction difference between the high index material and the low index material ranging from approximately 0.59 to 0.92.
