The invention relates to a cover (1) which is used in particular for covering a belt buckle. Damage is caused by belt buckles to musical instruments when they are being carried such that the surface of the instrument is scratched or partial areas of the material on the surface of the musical instrument are eroded by the buckle tongue or similar protruding parts. The invention proposes that the cover (1) consists, in a first embodiment, of a soft material which can be folded in several places (A, B), which is arranged around the belt buckle to cover it and which is fixed by at least one fastening device (5, 6). In a second embodiment, the cover can be mounted using a pin fastener on the belt buckle or can be buttoned to a button of a pair of trousers.
