<p>Modification of hydrogen silsesquioxane resin comprises: (a) refluxing a mixt. comprising 1 pts. wt. hydrogen silsesquioxane resin of formula (I), 0.1-10 pts. wt. of an end-capping reagent of formula (II), 0.0001-0.05 pts. wt. of an acid, 0.01-0.5 pts. wt. water for a time sufficient to modify the hydrogen silsesquioxane resin; b) cooling the reaction mixt.; and c) recovering the resin. HSi(OH)x(X)yOz/2 (I) X = hydrolysable substit.; x = 0-2; y = 0-2; z = 1-3, x+y+z=3. (R1R2R3Si)2O (II) R1, R2 and R3 = independently selected from hydrogen, alkyls, alkenyls or aryls. Also claimed is a modified hydrogen silsesquioxane resin of formula (III): (HSi1.5)x(R1R2R3SiO0.5)y (III) R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, alkyls or aryls, x is 0.25-0.99, y is 0.01-0.5 and x+y = 1.0.</p> |
