A first signal is produced having a value indicative of the air pressure at the air intake. A second signal is produced having a value indicative of the air pressure within the intake manifold. A third signal is produced having a value indicative of the temperature of the air flowing into the air intake. A fourth signal has a value indicative of a desired rate of air flow. A processor is responsive to the first, second, third and fourth signals for producing a fifth signal having a value indicative of a desired throttle position based on the currently sensed intake air pressure, manifold pressure, intake air temperature and desired rate of air flow. A sixth signal is indicative of the actual rate of air flow into the air intake. A feedback controller is responsive the fourth and sixth signals for producing an error signal indicative of the extent to which the actual and desired rate of air flow different. A positioning unit is jointly responsive to the error signal and to the fifth signal for adjusting the position of the throttle valve such that the actual rate of air flow more nearly matches the desired rate of the air flow.
|
