1,221,797. Kniffing-machines. EDOUARD DUBIED ET CIE. 5 Feb., 1968 [6 Feb., 1967], No.5626/68. Heading D1C. To ensure a uniform and when necessary a smooth change in the direction of movement of the needles of a flat machine, the needles or associated jacks manipulating the needles are each provided with two spaced butts 6, 7 or 6', 7# which engage correspondingly spaced cams 12, '14, 16, 17, 21, 23, 24, 25, 28 whereby either one or the other butt is in engagement with the appropriate cam during the passage of the cam carriage. The cams at each level are arranged to overlap at the point at which a change of direction of movement of the needles occurs so that the butts of the needles follow paths which ensure that the needles operate smoothly and without the butts being subjected to sudden impact loads in a transverse direction on engagement with the cams. The jacks may be pivoted to the end of the needle shanks whereby they can be depressed within the needle bed tricks for selection as required. The cams may also be moved into or out of butt engagement for needle selection purposes. |
