A mixing apparatus (10) comprising (a) a mixing tube (12) having an attached collar (28). (b) a bulk inlet (20) for conveying a dry substance into the mixing tube where the inlet includes a replaceable insert (26) constructed of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene; the insert is received through an opening (90) in the collar until a flange (33) of the insert engages an annular shoulder (31) of the collar. (c) an inlet (22) for conveying a liquid substance into the mixing tube. (d) an inlet (24) for conveying a recirculated mixture of the dry and liquid substances into the mixing tube. The dry substance, the liquid substance and the recirculated mixture being delivered to a common point of intersection (83) within the mixing tube so that a mixture is formed.
