Reducing the ammonia content in a liq. or gas sepd. from a flow of ammonia- or water-contg. material generated by a combustion device, comprises: (1) increasing the pH of the fluid to a min. of 8, if necessary; (2) bringing the fluid into contact with a combustion gas at ca. 30-100 deg C and with a relative humidity of ca. 50-100%, to drive off ammonia and give a practically ammonia-free fluid; (3) returning the combustion gas and driven-off ammonia to the combustion device; (4) passing the exhaust gas into a condenser to heat the combustion gas to ca. 30-100 deg C and moisten it to ca. 50-100% relative humidity, which transfers ammonia into the combustion gas, giving a practically ammonia-free exhaust gas; and (5) using some of the hot, moist combustion gas in step (2) and returning the rest to the combustion device. Pref. the combustion gas is one contg. oxygen (esp. air), or an air/low oxygen content gas mixt., or a mixt. of these with steam. Base is pref. added to the condensate f rom (4). Pref. carbon dioxide may be removed from the condensate in (4) and/or from the fluid in (2). Also claimed is an appts. for the process. |
