1,148,047. Laminated plastics materials; sheet forming. DOUGLAS AIRCRAFT CO. Inc. 29 March, 1966 [31 March, 1965], No. 13947/66. Headings B5A and B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] A laminate comprises a plurality of layers of transparent polycarbonate or polystyrene film bonded together by cured transparent polyurethane containing an epoxy resin. The polyurethane which is preferably cured by a polyamine or a polyol preferably contains a chlorinated biphenyl. The laminate is preferably in the form of a space lattice-type light trapping filter and is made by assembling the layers of film with interposed films 14 of the adhesive formulation in a press and applying pressure at ambient or elevated temperature, the films 12 of polycarbonate or polystyrene having a grid pattern 16 printed thereon, e.g. with a dye, the films 12 being assembled with the grid patterns in registration and the adhesive formulation being such that when cured it maintains the films in adhesive engagement but permits creeping of the adhesive between adjacent films at elevated temperatures, heating the resultant laminate, e.g. in an oven or by radiant heat, applying fluid pressure to one surface thereof to shape, e.g. to form a spherical section and cooling. Many polyurethanes, epoxy resins and curing agents are specified.
|
