PURPOSE: To obtain a safe treating agent effective for the treatment of alopecia and having decreased side effect by using 1α,24(R)-dihydroxycholecalciferol as an active component. CONSTITUTION: This agent contains 1α,24(R)-dihydroxycholecalciferol (a kind of activated vitamin D3 ) as an active component. It has an action to prevent the falling-off of hair, trichogenous action, hair increasing action and/or hair growing action and is effective for the treatment of alopecia areata, alopecia pityrodes and alopecia developing inflammatory dermatitis as complication. The agent is used in the form of an external agent selected from ointment, cream and lotion. The amount of the 1α,24(R)-dihydroxycholecalciferol in the agent is preferably 20-0.1μg/day or, in the case of external agent, 1-20μg/g.
