摘要 PURPOSE: To obtain a carbon fiber exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance, high in reliability, and useful for the porous electrode substrates of a phosphate type fuel battery. CONSTITUTION: This carbon fiber for the porous electrode of a phosphate type fuel battery is provided with following graphite crystal properties. The average lattice spacing distance D002 of the graphite hexagonal net surface layer is <=0.345nm. The crystal lattice size Lc(002) is >=.05nm. And the carbon net surface of the surface layer part has an anion skin structure. The carbon fiber preferably has physical properties comprising a tensile elastic modulus of >=300GPa, a bulk density of 1.8g/cm<3> and a surface oxygen amount (O1s /C1s ratio) of <=0.03.
