PURPOSE: To produce a metal matrix composite material excellent in mechanical strength and thermal fatigue resistance and having high wear resistance and to provide a method for producing the same. CONSTITUTION: This metal matrix composite material is the one contg. α-alumina powder constituted of polygonal primary particles substantially having no factures, and in which, if the particle size of cumultaion 10% and cumulation 50% are defined from the side of fine particles in a weight cumulative size distribution respectively as D10 and D50, D50 is regulated to 0.1 to 50μm and the ratio of D50/D10 is regulated to <=2 by 2 to 80vol.% as a reinforcing material. Furthermore, a method for producing the metal matrix composite material in which the α-alumina powder is impregnated with metallic molten metal under pressure or under no pressure is provided. |
