PURPOSE: To provide an optical film which is effective to improve visual angle characteristics and to provide a liquid crystal display device using this film. CONSTITUTION: This optical film is produced by laminating (a) at least one light-controlling plate, (b) at least one phase difference film comprising a thermoplastic resin and (c) a polarizing film. The light-controlling plate (a) is obtd. by preparing a compsn. containing two or more kinds of photopolymerizable monomers and/or oligomers having different refractive indices from each other, forming the compsn. into a film, and then irradiating the film with UV rays. The liquid crystal display device is equipped with such a liquid crystal cell that consists of two glass substrates having electrodes at least one of which is transparent and that a nematic liquid crystal layer having positive dielectric anisotropy and 60 to 120 deg. or 180 to 270 deg. twisted angle is held between the two glass substrates. The optical film above described is disposed on the upper and/or lower side of the liquid crystal cell. |
