PURPOSE: To obtain an antistatic colorant which is used for a thermoplastic resin, is easily melt kneaded in its preparation, and can contain an antistatic agent in a high concn. by adding a specific component in melt mixing and kneading a thermoplstic resin with a colorant and an antistatic agent. CONSTITUTION: The antistatic colorant is prepd. by melt mixing and kneading a thermoplastic resin as the carrier resin with an antistatic agent, diatomaceous earth, and a pigment and/or a dye. The antistatic agent is a surfactant having antistatic capability, an example being one having an m.p. of 80 deg.C or lower. Naturally occurring diatomaceous earth or its baking product having a particle size of 1-20μm is used, one having an oil absorption higher than 120ml/100g being pref. A suitable ratio of the surfactant to the diatomaceous easth is (3:1)-(1:3), and the total concn. of the surfactant and the diatomaceous earth is adjusted to 12-80wt.% to give a masterbatch contg. 9-60 wt.% surfactant.
