FIELD EMISSION TYPE ELEMENT, FIELD EMISSION TYPE IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE, AND ITS DRIVING METHOD

PURPOSE: To focus electrons emitted through a patch-shaped gate electrode. CONSTITUTION: Two by two patch-shaped cathode electrodes insulated each other are formed in the line direction on a cathode electrode 2, even-numbered gate electrodes of the patch-shaped electrodes 3 are connected to a first gate lead out electrode GT1 in a line perpendicularly crossing the cathode electrode 2, and odd numbered electrodes are connected to a second gate lead out electrode GT2. An anode electrode 8 on which a fluorescent material is covered is arranged so as to face the patch-shaped gate electrodes. The first gate lead out electrode GT1 and the second gate lead out electrode GT2 are alternately driven, and the electrode which is not driven goes in an earth level. When an image data is supplied to cathode lead out electrodes C1-Ck, the level of the patch-shaped gate electrodes 3 on both sides adjacent to the patch-shaped electrode 3 which is driven becomes an earth level, and electrons emitted are focused.
