摘要 PURPOSE: To purify methane with high purifying factor even if the temperature of exhaust gas is low by providing both a first reaction chamber having a partial oxidization catalyst for accelerating the partial oxidization of methane in the exhaust gas and a second reaction chamber that is arranged downstream of the first reaction chamber and has a main oxidization catalyst for accelerating the perfect oxidization of the intermediate reaction product produced in the first reaction chamber. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst for partially oxidizing methane is arranged in a first reaction chamber 1 of a honeycomb structure, and a catalyst for oxidizing the intermediate reaction product produced in the first reaction chamber 1 is arranged in a second reaction chamber 2. An inlet side of the first reaction chamber 1 being the downstream end of a gas flow in an introducing pipe 3 is provided with a partition plate 5 of the same diameter concave shape, and an outlet side thereof is provided with an annular partition plate 4 having a concave surface and of the same diameter as the second reaction chamber 2. To the outlet side of the second reaction chamber 2, an exhaust pipe 6 of a taper shape is continuously connected. Thus, the exhaust gas flowed in through the introducing pipe 3 changes its direction by 180deg. by the partition plate 5, and after passing through the first reaction diameter 1, it changes its direction by 180deg. by the partition plate 4, and enters the second reaction chamber 2, and flows out to the exhaust pipe 6.
