PURPOSE: To obtain an image data interpolation device performing the interpolation processing for the picture element which is suitable to the kind of an image. CONSTITUTION: An input image signal 11 is stored in an image storage part 12. A picture element interpolation part selection part 15 selects either one of a picture element interpolation part 16-1 or 16- N from the kind of the image inputted from an image kind and input part 14. When a fault occurs in the input image signal 11, an address control part 13 generates the address of the picture element which is necessary for the interpolation of the picture element from the address of the faulty picture element inputted in the picture element interpolation part selected by the picture element interpolation part selection part 15 and a faulty picture element location input part 17 and the picture element around the faulty picture element is read from the image storage part 12. Each picture element interpolation part performs the interpolation processing by each system. In the selected picture element interpolation part, the picture element value of the faulty picture element is predicted by a specified interpolation system from the picture element value of the picture element around the read faulty picture element and the predicted value substitutes the faulty picture element of the image storage part 12.
