CONSTITUTION: The light from a light source 62 is made incident on a color filter 59, and the red light out of the light is transmitted through the filter 59, and transmitted through a liquid crystal panel 56 and a semitransmissive mirror 52. The light from a light source 63 is made incident on a color filter 60, the green light out of the light is transmitted through the filter 60, transmitted through a liquid crystal panel 57 and a semitransmissive mirror 53, and reflected by the mirror 52 after it is reflected by a total reflection mirror 55. The light from a light source 64 is made incident on a color filter 61, the blue light is transmitted through the filter 61. After the blue light passes through a liquid crystal panel 58, it is reflected by a total reflection mirror 54 and the mirror 53, and reflected by the mirror 52 after it is reflected by the mirror 55. The red light transmitted through the mirror 52 and the green light and the blue light reflected by the mirror 52 are synthesized on one axis of a lens 50, then projected on a screen 51.
