摘要 PURPOSE: To make a gradation display and a color display with a high speed and high contrast possible by making a selection time of a row electrode and a means response time of a liquid crystal display element specified values thereby deciding the number of simultaneous selection row electrodes. CONSTITUTION: When the number of simultaneously selected row electrodes is defined to L, the number of all row electrodes to N, the selection time of a row electrode to T, the mean response time of the liquid crystal display element toτ, a fixed rule exists among them. For instance, in the case of the graph taking the selection time T of a row electrode as the axis of abscissa, and the number of simultaneous selection row electrode L50 at the time of showing CR50 as the axis of ordinate, solid lines showτ=0.09 second, and a broken line showsτ=0.23 second. In the case ofτ=0.09 second, two kinds of N=490, 245 are shown, and in the case ofτ=0.23, the case of N=245 is shown. Then, the L50 is in proportion to the T, and is in inverse proportion to theτand N. A proportion constant K in the case of L50 =K.N.T/τbecomes nearly 30. From the matter, the range of the sufficiently small L having the effect of suppressing liquid crystal relaxation is in the case of K=30-300.
