PURPOSE: To inexpensively realize an apparatus having a high heater capacity at a cold/light load without impairing the degree of freedom on design, in a heater control device of a diesel engine making a heat source of a disel engine equipped with an exhaust recirculation device. CONSTITUTION: An intake passage 12 of a diesel engine 10 and an exhaust passage 14 thereof communicate with an exhaust recirculation passage 16. The device is provided with an EGR valve 18 for controlling the communicating condition of the exhaust recirculation passage 16. A heater core 56 is arranged in a cooling-water passage of the diesel engine 10. When a heater switch 36 is turned on at the time of light load of the diesel engine 10, the exhaust gas recirculation region is made to be up to the region where the temperature of cooling water is relatively low.
