PURPOSE: To obtain a polyol-ester lubricant which contains a specific neopentyl glycol diester as a base, shows high compatibility with hydrofluorocarbons and is useful as an oil for refrigerators because of its excellent resistance to hydrolysis and heat stability. CONSTITUTION: This lubricant contains, as a base, a neopentyl glycol diester mixture of the formula (R<1> to R<3> are each at 1-13C alkyl where the total carbon atoms of R<1> to R<3> are 3-23 where the fatty acid residues may be the same or different in one molecule). The 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane/polyol-ester 9/1 weight ratio mixture has lower than -70 deg.C phase-separation temperature. The polyol- ester lubricant is obtained by allowing a monoolefin of 4-12C in which one carbon atom relating to the double bond is tertiary to react with carbon monoxide and hydrogen fluoride to give a fatty acid fluoride mixture followed by reaction of the product with neopentyl glycol. |
