Rectangular sails (3) are suspended from horizontal rigging lines (2) fastened to side masts (1). These turn on their own axes and also move in slots in their supporting carriers (4,5). The rigging can be moved vertically. The entire assembly is rotatable around its vertical axis (Z) to achieve a favourable angle (alpha) to the apparent wind. To change course against the wind, the angle is held at 0 degrees until a workable angle (alpha 1) is achievable on the other tack. To change with the wind, the rigging is rotated to 90 degrees until a workable angle (alpha 1) is achievable.
