摘要 |
PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for fluorenemethyloxycarbonyl to be used as an amino acid-protecting group by reducing 9-formylfluorene with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This compound is obtained by hydrogenating 9-formylfluorene in the presence of a Raney catalyst (e.g. Raney nickel) in a solvent (e.g. toluene) at 40-90 deg.C for 0.5-10h under a pressure of 1-100kg/cm<2> . The amount of the catalyst to be used is 3-10wt.% based on the raw material. Because of being unstable to both acid and base, the 9-fluorenylmethanol is to be reduced under the unusual conditions mentioned above. |
