The engine has an idling duct (14) branching from the main intake circuit (10) and by-passing the gas flow throttle valve (12). The duct contains an idle speed regulating valve (16) and a booster (18) with a Venturi-Coanda effect to increase the intake circuit suction. The booster uses part of the flow in the idling duct to create an increased suction effect in other systems of the vehicle, e.g. the braking system. At low idling duct flow, the whole of the flow is passed through the booster. Alternatively, the booster can incorporate a control valve for the induction flow passing through it.
