The engine has a motor piston (2) movable in a cylinder (1) and having an axis (3) on which a connecting rod (4) is mounted for connection to a crankshaft (5). The cylinder is connected to an inlet duct and an exhaust duct. The cylinder communicates with an inlet cylinder (16,17A) via an inlet port (14A,15A). the inlet cylinder is connected to an inlet piston (18,19A) and via an exhaust port (14,15E) with an exhaust cylinder itself connected to an exhaust duct. The inlet and exhaust pistons are connected to the crankshaft for driving.
