<p>A fluorescent lamp circuit includes a ballast inductor to control high frequency current through the lamp when operating and a capacitor connected to provide by interaction with the ballast inductor a voltage across the lamp during start-up which rises to a level sufficient to strike the lamp. A protection circuit is operative to apply a substantially short-circuit across the lamp if the start-up voltage exceeds a predetermined threshold. The protection circuit protects not only the inverter supply for the lamp and allows individual protection for multiple lamps driven from a single supply, but can protect dimmer circuits connected across the lamps.</p> |
