Optical fibre coil reel for data transmission from land vehicle, air or sea missile

A coil (6) is produced of an optical fibre that is wound onto a thin walled tubular former (4). The windings are located closely together and in order to prevent any movement the optical fibres are coated with a suitable adhesive or lacquer by passing through an immersion path. The coil is arranged within a cover (12). The adhesive has to be uniformly distributed over the surface and for this the former tube is produced of a porous ceramic that allows the fluid to disperse through the ceramic also has approximately the same thermal expansion coefficient as the optical fibre and so avoids thermal stressing.
