1,236,883. Dissolving. F. ORLITA. 11 Sept., 1969 [12 Sept., 1968], No. 44968/69. Heading B1C. A continuous method of dissolving a crystalline or pulverulent material, e.g. sugar, comprises forming a paste-like mass of the material in hopper 15 by adding solvent from tank 1 via pipe 14, metering the paste-like mass by means of metering pump 20 into a stream of solvent flowing through pipe 22, and transporting the mixture through a pipe 26 of sufficient length to ensure that the material dissolved in the solvent before it enters storage tank 27. The paste may be formed by the addition of solvent through holes in a pipe connected to the discharge outlet of the hopper, Fig. 2 (not shown). The pipe through which the mixture flows may be sinuous, Fig. 3 (not shown), or may contain baffles, in the form of perforated discs Fig. 5 (not shown). One or more centrifugal pumps 24 arranged to work against the pressure in pipe 22 may be used to prevent passage of relatively large particles of undissolved material. The flow of solvent from tank 1 may be regulated by metering pumps 6, 11. |
