The invention relates to a barbecue (1) with a flat griddle (2) which can be rotated by a motor and a raising and lowering device designed to alter the distance of the griddle from a heater at least while the griddle is rotating, in which there is a combination rotating and raising device consisting of a lifting arm and pivoting arm pivotable via a drive and connected to the griddle, where the pivots of the pivoting and lifting arms are at a distance apart to allow the griddle to rotate and rise while the lifting and pivoting arms are moved simultaneously, with the lifting and pivoting arms having guides which are engaged together over at least part of the travel of the lifting and pivoting arms in order necessarily to guide the pivoting arm.
