The core has a central drive shaft (1) around the periphery of which there are mutually spaced longitudinal grooves with slide strips radially displaceable by varying the pressure in a respective expandable pressure medium duct (4). At least one annular base member is located on the drive shaft with an internal face bearing on the slide strips. An external face has ramp tracks (6) cooperating with pressure locking elements which serve for releasably locking of and non-rotatable coupling with slide-on winding cores. The pressure elements are held in recesses in a pressure ring rotatable relative to the base member. The pressure locking elements comprise rolling elements, such as balls (7), projecting slightly beyond the external face of the pressure ring even when the pressure elements are inoperative. The elements serve to guide the positioning of the winding cores onto the pressure ring.
