<p>The invention describes a system for generating a visual pulsation effect distributed across a visual, decorative or display surface; the visual pulsation effect is obtained by a plurality of individual luminous events, each luminous event being produced by the formation of a hanging water drop from a suspended water film followed by the separation of said water drop from said water film and by the subsequent formation of a vertical array of essentially interconnected smaller water droplets, wherein each luminous event is visually perceivable as a luminous point evolving into a luminous thread, before disappearing, by effectively illuminating for the observer said hanging-separating drops. An exemplary embodiment comprises a plurality of supporting elements (32) aligned in a vertical array one above the other in a predetermined vertical distance q from one another. By suitable measures a water film (37) is generated, and continously sustained, on at least part of the lower surface of each supporting element; water drops (38) are evolving and separating from the water film and in falling are evolving into a vertical array of smaller droplets (39) which finally will impinge onto the upper surface of the next supporting element below and feeding the water film generated and sustained at said element. Notwithstanding the extremely short duration of the process of said water drops (38) evolving into a series of smaller droplets (39) after separation from the suspending water film, this process becomes perceivable for the viewer (34) as an attractive and impressive luminous event by suitable illumination of the arrangement with directional light from light sources (33); the light sources (33) are provided on the side of the arrangement opposite from the viewer (34), and hidden from direct visibility by the viewer. Instead of light from the discrete light sources beams of directional light from the sun may be substituted for the illumination purposes of the invention. The system of the present invention is useful for decorative or architectural purposes.</p> |
