Process for the condensation of hydrogen cyanide with an aldehyde

Condensation of an aldehyde with a hydrocyanic acid in the presence of a buffer to maintain the pH above 4.0, and with the exclusion of amines. Also claimed are the condensation reaction of an aldehyde and hydrocyanic acid, where the reaction is an absorption reaction between liq. aldehyde and gaseous hydrocyanic acid or the reaction is between liq. aldehyde and an aq. soln. of hydrocyanic acid.
