A predetermined frame format (TRAU) is retained unaltered also in the communications net (PSTN) for mobile participants (TL1, TL2), for the transmission of GSM data in a communications system. This predetermined frame format (TRAU) is maintained even if the coding rates in the uplink and downlink differ from each other. Recoding takes place especially only in the downlink, with the advantage that the uplink and downlink are completely separated from each other with regard to the coding rates used at the time. This process can also be implemented for the discontinuous/continuous (DTX) operation mode.
