The memory card has a rectangular carrier (3), incorporating an electrically-programmable read-only memory, connected to contact surfaces provided on the surfaces of the memory card which lie in contact when the memory cards are stacked together. The contact surfaces are used simultaneously for contact with the bus system, the surfaces of the memory cards contoured so that they interfit when the cards are stacked together, to provide a releasable mechanical coupling, with their contact surfaces held in contact.
