A thermal transfer dye sheet comprises a substrate having a coating comprising a dye of formula (1) wherein: Ch is a chromogen; R and R each independently is a spacer group; Y is an interactive functional group; w and x each independently is 0 or an integer equal to greater than 1; and m and n each independently is an integer equal to or greater than 1, provided that w and x are not both equal to zero and when one of w or x is 0 at least one of m and n is equal to or greater than 2. A thermal transfer dye sheet/receiver sheet combination in which the dye sheet comprises a coating comprising a dye or mixture of dyes of formula (1) and in which the receiver sheet contains a polymer having at least one group capable of interacting with Y.
