<p>A manual transmission shifter (Fig. 1) having an ignition key interlock mechanism (69) which includes a bell crank (26) having a slot (27) engaged by a protrusion (28) on shift lever (22). A roller (107) engages the bell crank to prevent the protrusion (28) from moving from the end of the slot (27) in the reverse position. A cable (29) allows disengagement of the protrusion (28) and allows removal of the ignition key (31).</p>
