The switch gear has fixed and loose wheels and a gear change unit with connecting elements operated by selector forks (2). The selector forks are guided on the shift roller (1) which forms at the same time the shift rod. The selector forks are guided on the shift roller by engaging more than halfway round. Each fork has a projection directed towards the roller and projecting into a circumferential groove (3) of same. The projection is formed by a slide block which is movable radially relative to the roller.
