PURPOSE: To remove defects in prior art apparatus such as clogging due to a mesh or a screen and attrition of a carrier and to separate a carrier appropriately. CONSTITUTION: A separator is composed of a separation tank 11 the upper part of which has an inlet 12 and an outlet 13 and the lower end of which is open. A zigzag or spiral bypass is formed between the inlet 12 and the outlet 13, and the carrier falls to a position which is adequately lower than the outlet 13 before reaching the outlet 13 to be separated by the difference of gravity.
