PURPOSE: To provide the image processing unit with a simple configuration applying processing having the effect of emphasizing a character area to a character part. CONSTITUTION: Data 1 of an original 1 read by a scanner 2 are given to a 1st gradation correction processing circuit 3, in which the data are processed by a linear function and the result is processed by edge emphasis filtering. A selector 7 selects an output D4 of the edge emphasis filter or an output D3 of a non-character area adaptive processing circuit 4. The switching control of the selector 7 is conducted by an output Ss of a character area detection circuit 5. |
